Last night I watched The House of Mirth and it's Oh! so beautiful. I usually love period movies but, whoa, this one cracked my soul (well, I think so...?). The story and the characters have some inconsistencies, they are nothing too bad, though. And the costumes, the locations, the lights...they are all are so gorgeous, so really amazing, that you can easily overlook the script failures(in fact, those slightly unexpected changes that shocked me in the movie are in Edith Wharton's book, too, in one way or another, so it's not the director's fault). Gillian Anderson is a great Lily Bart, so very attractive and intense. I cannot say the same of Eric Stoltz playing Mr. Selden, though, I'm afraid Mr.Stoltz is a remarkable actor who, unfortunately, looks like he hasn't grown up at all.
And I have to say I'm officially in love with Anthony LaPaglia. He is the master of restrained feelings but has the most expressive, gleaming eyes at the same time. I used to watch Without a Trace (it's not on TV anymore, here) just because I loved to see him, but now, it's official, he has gone right to my wishlist ;P
